For Nichola Mente, owner and licensed esthetician of Sage & Honey Spa, the journey began at just 14 years old with a gift from a friend: her very first facial.
That single experience opened the door to a world she had never imagined. It was more than skincare. It was a moment of calm, confidence, and transformation.
Although she always dreamed of a career in beauty, growing up in California's Silicon Valley meant practical careers often took center stage. Nichola built a successful career as an executive assistant supporting leaders in the tech industry, but her passion for skincare never faded.
As the pace of work intensified, so did the need to slow down. Monthly visits to her favorite spa became more than self-care. They became a ritual of restoration.
Each facial, each treatment, each quiet moment left her thinking the same thing:
"One day, I want to create this experience for someone else."
FROM SILICON VALLEY TO THE HIGH DESERT
BEND OREGON DESTINATION SPA
In 2018, Nichola and her husband, Orion, made a life-changing decision.
They traded the fast pace of Silicon Valley for the wide-open skies of Central Oregon, settling on a peaceful family farm near Bend, Tumalo, and Redmond.
Today, that farm is home to horses, goats, chickens, ducks, dogs, cats, and spectacular views of the Cascade Mountains.
More importantly, it became home to a new dream.
In 2020, Nichola enrolled at Phagans' Central Oregon Beauty College to pursue esthetics full time. After earning her esthetics license and continuing her education with advanced certifications in sugaring and spray tanning, she opened Sage & Honey Spa in March 2021.
What began as a lifelong dream has grown into a destination where clients from Bend, Redmond, Sisters, Tumalo, and visitors throughout Central Oregon come to restore their skin, relax their minds, and reconnect with themselves.
